Stone Benchtop Care & Maintenance
Cleaning
For daily cleaning, use warm water, a mild pH-balanced cleaner, and a soft cloth. A weak mix of methylated spirits or white vinegar with water also works. Avoid boiling water, abrasive scourers, acidic chemicals, bleaches, or oil-based cleaners.
Stains & Marks
Natural stone is porous—seal it to prevent stains. Avoid acidic or highly pigmented substances like lemon juice, coffee, or hair dye. Use coasters, placemats, or chopping boards to protect surfaces, and clean spills immediately. Keep metal objects off to prevent rust marks.
Heat Resistance
Stone is heat-resistant, not heat-proof. Avoid placing hot pots directly on the benchtop, as rapid temperature changes can cause cracking. Use wooden boards or trivets.
Cutting & Scratches
Stone is tough but can dull knives. Repeated cutting in one area may wear down the polish, so always use a chopping board.
Weak Spots & Sealing
Joins, rails, and overhangs are more vulnerable. All stone can stain or etch, so sealing is essential—especially for kitchen and bar tops.
